Objectives

Outline: In this one day course participants will come to understand culture as something that is all around us. It cannot be avoided but understanding cultural diversity can be harnessed to provide better services and practice.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to demonstrate:
• Respect for and inclusion of culturally diverse people in all work practices
• Effective communication with culturally diverse persons
• Use of effective strategies to eliminate discrimination and bias in the workplace

Who Should Attend: All staff working in community services

Cost: $20 HACC service workers, $60 Non-HACC services workers (Morning tea, Lunch and Afternoon tea included)

Facilitator Profile

Maria Katrivesis has more than 20 years experience in the human services sector.  She has worked directly with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds with a range of disabilities, and has a passion for working with diversity issues.  Her hands-on skills are complemented by extensive experience with policy development, project management, and building partnerships and alliances. 
She is an experienced and innovative trainer who is committed to participatory processes.  In addition, she is an effective communicator and has an eye for original and accessible training resource design.
Over the last 15 years Maria has worked in positions aimed at effecting organisational change to improve cultural competency capacity in the human services sector with an emphasis on disability services.
